Clark,

You can use center pin flush cutters to trim the felt without removing 
the dampers. You need the ones that cut perpendicular to the handle and 
are long enough. Hold the cuter level with the bottom of the strings and 
trim both sides at once. Hopefully the try-cord felts are on the front 
half of the damper heads. If they are on the back side this trick will 
not work.
