Paul, Are your 'out-of-the-box' pianos usually flat? These days ours are pretty close to pitch, so we can just do quicky tunings on them. Years ago Samicks would be miles flat, thus needing some work; Yamahas would often be above pitch, but we wouldn't pull them down, just let them come down as the strings stretch. But these days these two manufacturers seem to have their factory pitch about right, with only cheapy Chinese brands being badly off by the time we see them. I can't speak about other brands though........
