Bass and Duplex Scales

I've seen numbers relating to both of these items, but I have never
understood how one comes up with the numbers.

for Example: that Chickering had a 123 scale(relating to the Bass). How does
one come up with these numbers?

Recently, Duplex Danny asked the same question regarding a Baldwin F duplex
scale..Dan, the ones I have seen had the older aliquot config.(which for the
record, I prefer to the Accu-Just)...but he also was asking for a number..
