This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/mixed attachment At times, the question arises of how much bigger is a grand than an = upright. The attached photo provides some perspective. I thought it = might be of interest to some. I recently made up a inner rim duplicate of a Baldwin M grand. The grand = is 5' 3-1/2" in length (I looked at the Baldwin web site which indicates = a new M is 5' 2" - the case (lid off) of mine measures 5' 3". In the = attached photo, the grand rim was clamped to a Mason and Hamlin frame = and soundboard liner (the grand is the striped wood). The M&H stands 53" = tall. The inner edge of the grand rim is 2-1/2 inches short of the inner = edge of the upright soundboard liner.=20 So, from this, the current standard 52 inch upright would be about the = same length from belly rail to end/bottom as a 5' 5" grand piano. Good = enough for a rough comparison. Kinda scary how much extra soundboard is flopping around in the wind on = the average upright...........and grands! Just fun stuff to know and tell.
