Jon is dead right on this one. Hanging hammers without pre-traveling =
creates a lot of extra work, popping off hammers and burning over to =
accomplish what should have been done right in the first place.
If you get bored while pre-traveling, it may help while away the time if =
you put a little traveling music on the stereo while you're doing it. =
THis only applies to those of us old enough to remember Jackie Gleason =
(and away we go).

I travel new shanks before hanging the hammers because if you hang the =
hammer straight and then have to shim a travelling shank,
the hammer is not longer straight. Then you will either have to remove =
the hammer and reglue or burn-in if slightly off.
