The following was sent only to the CAUT list, however, since most of the
continuing postings about Newton have been taking place on PIANOTECH, I
am forwarding it to that list as well. I apologize to those for whom it is
redundant.

>I am Paul Reid, computer technician with the Rutgers Music Dept, and
>knew Newton all the time he worked here. Our mutual technical interests
>drew us together. I am saddened at his passing.

>There is a memorial service at St Michael's Chapel at 7PM Monday 25

>Highland Park.
>
>A native of New Mexico, son of a printer, he lived most of his life
>around New York City. He was NYC chapter president for the Piano
>Technician's Guild. For many years, he taught piano technology at
>the Light House, the New York Institute for the Blind. He and his
>dog Lolly were founding members of Therapy Dogs, International,
>working in hospitals to improve the mood and health of patients. He
>was the Keyboard Specialist for Rutgers University for 10 years. He
>was published frequently in journals of piano technology and scale
>design. In his retirement years, he taught seminars and restored
>concert pianos, in Sweden and (as seen in the video "Tuning With The
>Enemy") in Cuba. Throughout his life he shared his extensive
>knowledge and experience with other piano technicians so that they
>could "grow, improve, change, gain skills, and expand the scope of
>our work".
