S&S D Duplex

Paul, S&S almost never come out of the factory with the duplexes tuned
properly; the result is that many of the sections get muted to get rid of
the distorted sound color. Many people subscribe to the theory that having
duplexes [that are in tune] make the piano sound much better. I personally
think that duplexes can contribute to a good tone, but there are so many
other factors that are much more important (e.g., voicing). I think that
things like regulation and voicing should get priority over tuning the
duplexes!
