Hi Roger. Thanks for your input. Up till now, I deep needled shoulders to get a good sound at forte level, with enough root frequency to make the overall sound warm enough, and to avoid distortions. I'm afraid that deep needling more than what I do would compromise power and colour shades, dulling the whole dynamic range of the hammer. I tried to cure my problem by diminishing the hammer blow, but I found that hammer blow is not THAT influent on the dynamic range. I couldn't feel the difference in dynamic shades between two settings of hamer blow different of up to 5 mm. Any further thoughts ? Stéphane Collin. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roger Jolly" <roger.j@sasktel.net> To: "Pianotech" <pianotech@ptg.org> Sent: Friday, November 01, 2002 9:39 PM Subject: Re: action ratios | Hi Stephane, | With out seeing the piano, I would suspect that the | shoulders need deep needling to get some elasticity into them. | Regards Roger | | | | At 08:58 PM 11/1/02 +0100, you wrote: | >Hi Richard, David, Bill, etc. | > | >I've been following the thread with much interest. | >May I ask an innocent but pragmatic question (I think related to this topic) ? | >More than often, I encounter this problem when rebuilding Bechstein pianos | >: I get the sound right, I get the touch feel ok, but the whole instrument | >always happens to be difficult to control, as the dynamic output switches | >too quickly from PP to mF (I mean : the dynamic shades are not | >progressive enough.
