SAT III FAC Calculation Assumptions?

Hi Dave. I can offer some nebulous tidbits here. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to do exactly what you are trying to do. I don't recall exactly what kind of octaves the SAT is calculating, but I know that it is published. It is spelled out either in the SAT manual, or in the SAT portion of the Randy Potter course (do you have that?). It states exactly what type of octaves are used and what the calculated beat rate is (I'm thinking it might more likely be in the Potter stuff). It's flashing in my brain as I write this.......1/4 bps for octaves? And then yes, Jim Coleman has written procedures - I think in his Direct Interval Tuning writings - on how to exactly measure beat rates with the SAT. Again, this stuff might be in the SAT manual, I might have it in stuff Jim Coleman has sent me, or it might even be in the Potter stuff.

I think you are looking for about three sentences that address your questions.

I think the info that I think I have in the potential sources above will give you your answers. I think. I would have to dig for this stuff. If you have not found it before next Monday, or don't have some of this material, maybe I can help you then.

Is all that nebulous enough for you? I DEFINITELY have a piano with your name on it!
