I came across an interesting piano yesterday. A 1903 Stieff upright with an action that was on hinges so that it could be leaned forward without removing it. I was able to access all the flange bushings (to CLP 'em) just by unclipping it at the top and letting it lay on the keys. It had double flanges for the hammer butt and damper lever. It also had capstans that were an additional piece of wood mounted with two screws on top of the key. All in all, it seemed like a quality piano. Does anyone have any knowledge of this brand? Would it be worth picking up and working on? I could get it practically free. (Needs repinning and damper felts, but everything else, pinblock, and bridges included seemed in good shape. Hammers had been replaced at some point. Cabinet had some ornate carving on the "leg" portion.) Tom Sivak
