scaling reference question

Ron,

You know my insatiable curiosity.  I just ran across a reference to the work
and was curious about it.  Maybe some day I can get back to spending more
time figuring out things about pianos <grin> and thought this might be a
good rabbit hole to fall down in the meantime.
