Stripping a Steinway Ebonized Finish

On some Steinways that were "ebonized" when new they have the word "ebonized" stamped right on the case - I have a 1900 black Steinway that has the stamp on the inside on the side right near the bass tuning pins. If it was ebony from the factory, I agree with Joe, I believe they stained the wood black. You can strip all you want, but you will only have black wood. If you see the wood grain and it is still black, that's the deal. But I guess you can still make your client happy - just clear coat it! But I would paint it black.
