Flat Knuckles/Bolstering

All,
Most, here, have recommended WOOL to Bolster knuckles. If you use wool, IMO,
it will simply flatten out and you'll be in the same situation. I have been
using heavy upholstery thread, (Nylon, etc.) for many years and have never
had a problem with it's working" out of the knuckle or of the knuckle
becoming flat again, within a short period of time. The times that I used
wool, (back in the stone ages :-), I had nothing but problems with it. I
think the reason that I haven't had a problem with the Upholsterer's Thread
is that it is woven into the knuckle as a continuous thread. BTW, the best
tool I've found for trimming the thread, is a large pair of "toenail
clippers". They can be sharpened and really cut flush. (The "blade" is
convex, as opposed to fingernail clippers that are concave.)
