keytops too white

Tom,

Schaff used to sell "ivory stain." In their 1973 catalogue the description
reads, "permanent yellow-brown stain for coloring white ivory, pyralin or ivorine
to match old keys." I had some many years ago and remember that one would have
to dilute it severely for it not to come out too dark. I never actually used it
on a client's piano.

Interestingly, it is still listed in the index of the new catalogue but not in
the catalogue anywhere else. You could contact Schaff and see if they still have
some available.

Regards,
Clyde Hollinger
