upr. brass flange repair

Hi Patrick,
I, when using repair clips, have been tempted to use the repair
flanges. They look like they would do a much better job.
The downside is, that you would have to remove the full section, and
cut out the bad notes. This would be much more labour intensive.
There was a class given, in Dearborn, in 1996, about annealing the
brass, it was given by a William J. Belamut. It had a one page
handout, which I could e-mail, if that is allowed.
If too many are gone, I would have a new section made my Schaff.
Regards,
John M. Ross

Subject: upr. brass flange repair

| Dear List,
| It's been awhile since I've repaired an upright with brass flanges.
| Other than Gerald Foye's 2 page article in the Nov. 1982 Piano
| Technicians Journal, is there any article or brief note on optimal
| procedures for using repair clips? I'm seldom really happy with my
| results (and I have to revive a couple pianos with brass flange
| problems this week).
| Thanks,
| Patrick Draine
