This term comes up from time to time when talking about the sharpness or lack there off in the capo bar. And each time it does it seems to me that folks start discussing its validity in terms of absoluts. I get the feeling it is better to view this sorta like one like one veiws a number line. Its not a matter of things BEING positive or negative, rather moving in a positive or negative direction. The earliest this comes up in any of my papers is in an indirect way by a fellow named Coltman back in the 30's I believe. Neither the abolute pivot, or the absolute clamp exists....rather the configuration can be more "pivot like" or more "clamp like". But I have yet to run into any hard evidence published that goes to how far an operating range one has and how significant those changes can be for inharmonicity and some of the other concerns talked about on this thread in this regard. -- Richard Brekne RPT, N.P.T.F.
