Tuning the duplex does not cause any buzzing by itself. It is the string
geometry that must be used to get the aliquot system to work that makes the
system susceptible to buzzing. Nearly every string buzzing problem I've ever
encountered in a grand piano has been in one with a tuned duplex system. We
make the piano relatively immune to string buzzing by increasing the string
deflection angle and shortening the duplex string length. In the process we
also increase sustain time noticeably.
