Well, starting with the premise that "proper" clamping pressure doesn't require
PSI loads in the thousands, or even hundreds, nearly anything will work. 

At the sides, a strip of wood temporarily tacked to the case side will back up
a small wedge, or just tack one end of the strip and swivel the other end back
to the board to wedge it. Yes, it makes holes - so? At the top and/or bottom,
almost anything you can cram between the soundboard and plate will do it. Short
hose sections, wedges, folded up backrail cloth, large angioplasty balloons,
1/2 a tennis or racquet ball, $27000 custom built titanium expansion clamps, or
chunks of foam rubber. No holes here.  

I prefer low tech.
