restringing bass...

Someone with more experience than I might want to chime in here, but I think
that if the pins have, say, 80 or more in.-lbs. torque, you would likely be
better off leaving them undisturbed -  just back them off one turn or so -
just the minimum that you need to attach the new string. Most of us just
assume that when someone says "old upright" that the bass pins will have
about 20 in.-lbs. torque. But if the pin torque is much below 60-80
in.-lbs., you will likely be better off with larger pins. Just something to
think about.
