Hi Charles, Stretching should always be done on the basis of what "sounds good". As you become more experienced you will begin to have some ideas about particular models of pianos--expectations of stretch. It will depend too on what type of sound you are looking for. This is entirely subjective. Art? Not really, for you can accurately measure the end result. Taste? DEFINITELY. Please be aware that as you travel towards the treble your fifths will become wider and wider eventually becoming expanded rather than contracted.
