Hi Harriet,

I too, like Roger, did not realize you were speaking of a wound string.  In this case
I endeavor to splice the old string even if it breaks in the speaking length for I
have that doing so in entirely inaudible when done well.

There was a very long discussion of string splicing a while back which you can find
in the archives.
