Joe,
Try looking on the soundboard, far treble end, close to the capo.  There
might be a serial number imprinted there.... just in case the other numbers
don't work.  A square tail certainly could put it in that time period, but
I'd rather trust numbers in a different location.

  Hi all,
  Working on a Weber grand with the # 8500 on the left side of the pin block
and on the music rack. The instrument has a square nose and the action does
not have metal brackets but is entirely wood with the hammers on a woodrail
that is removable by it's self. Can anyone confirm the manufacture  date of
arround 1870?
