If you are using wafers don't soak them.  One quick dip into
water and out again.  Allow them go become slightly flaccid
then put it all together.  You are getting everything too
wet which causes the slippysliddy thing.  It is not the wet
that is important it is heating the plate after it is all
arranged and clamped up that does the gluing.  Allow to
remain clamped overnight for a good bond.  Great clamping
pressure is also not required.
