Rescaling is a fascinating project. Take someone up on the offer to help you. Some of these reverse patterns do occur. The modern Baldwin Grands have them. In your particular case, you may end up retaining that pattern and when rescaling other pianos in the future, you may see that an irregular pattern actually gives you the best compromise. Older, off brand pianos and even some recognized as good instruments may have scale design weaknesses because the knowledge of what to do just was not available back then. The question of why a manufacturer seemingly chose to build an inferior product when a better one would have been just as easy often comes up. Good luck, Bill Bremmer RPT Madison, Wisconsin
