How do I open this piano???

I've come across an Acrosonic Spinett built in 1936.
Serial #272287. After 20 minutes, I finally gave up
trying to figure out how to open it. There are hinged
pieces on top which fold over the music desk and keys
so that when closed, the piano is like a big box.
There are no hinges on the back and no screws under
the keybed or anywhere else which would seem to let me
take the lid off. I tried sliding the lid forward or
backward, but couldn't get it to budge. It looks as
though the front edge of the lid is attached to the
vertical piece of wood behind the music desk (no gap
at all), as if the whole music desk would need to come
off with the top. I'm wondering if there is some
trick to this piano someone would know about.
Otherwise, I wonder if the piano had ever been
refinished and the parts got sealed together with a
varnish or something.

Any ideas?

The box said "Requires Windows 95, or better." So I bought a Macintosh.
