Connecting bass to tenor, yes. It improves the low tenor by stiffening and
mass coupling to the low bass, and detracts from the low bass by keeping
the bridge from moving. The low tenor can be improved by other and better
means (including that extra string that was mentioned) than by tying it to
the bass.
