Be sure to check that the dampers and trapwork are regulated properly. Press on the string(s) and see if the dampers move along with the wire as you push. If they don't, the damper levers are resting on the damper tray. They should not. See that the damper pedal has about 1/4" of travel before any dampers move. See that the dampers lift in the proper timing, ie., they begin to rise as the hammer is about 1/3 the way to the string. If they don't, the damper levers may be resting on the back of the keys. There has also been recent discussion of different replacement felts in the dampers, but this may not be possible or practical in your case. Changing out and/or adding extra components may not be necessary if you make sure the mechanism that is there is in proper regulation. Paul McCloud San Diego
