Dear List, Greetings all. Allthough I do not have the opportunity to keep up with the list as I would like, I do recieve the digest form. As I am not a contributing member of the list I feel somewhat hesitant to offer my opinion. However, after reading Rob Goodale's statement regarding Steinway hammers, I feel obliged to offer my humble opinion. Mr. Goodale, I beg to differ with you. I find S & S hammers of exceptional quality. One only needs to listen to some of the recent (and past) recordings of Steinway pianos with major artists to appreciate the results. In addition, attending concerts and recitals in some of the premier halls in the world where Steinways are utilized can be very rewarding and serves as proof that the quality of the pianos and hammers are of upmost quality. Yes, the Steinway New York hammer requires alternative tecniques regarding preparation, etc. But to say "they bite" is, in my opinion, incorrect. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your imput and simply being available via "the list". This forum is invaluable, especially for members who are geographically isolated. Regards to all, and Mr. Goodale, no hard feelings....I enjoy your input and contributions immensely. I just feel the need to express my opinion on this important issue. Sincerely, Arlan Harris rpt
