Brian;
 I don't think there is a generic correct size/shape for a termination per
se. 'All' of the factors come into play, i.e. string size, tension, leading
and ending 'waste length, speaking length, deflection angle(s) and I am sure
a few more...............

  On an old non-descript grand there was a chunk missing from the capo 'V' in
the high treble. Not wanting to just toss the thingee I decide to fix the
capo and provide a new termination..........I brazed the missing chunk space,
about a 1 1/2" space, then machined the entire 'V' bar to accept a piece of
5/16ths brass rod. When I was finished the treble section sounded better
than it did before, tuned well and there was no 'leakage'. I don't ascribe my
result to anything but dumb luck but it points out that in 'this' instance a
termination with a 'round section' worked well.....
