John, Unless I'm misunderstand what you're saying, there's usually a wing nut right where the bar ends on the bass end. Just loosen that a little and it slips right up and then pull it out of the case from the treble end. I hope this isn't too "muddy" and explanation but it really is easy. Unless this is maybe a very early version when Kawai did it differently? Hope this helps.
