Keith et al.. No, they do live up to my expectations. I expect them to sound bad! Granted, when you can closely match core diameter and wrap size they might not totally suck but they stand out like a sore thumb in my opinion. On a poorly scaled piano I might consider using one but I splice whenever possible. They should not even be considered for fine instruments.
