The "keep out" screw is only to get UL approval. Remove it and adjust the sustain pedal like you normally would. However, before you touch the sustain pedal, check the soft pedal. My concern is that you might have done a disservice in adjusting the captstans. It could be that the volume was set on very low and therefore the hammers were already half way to the strings and thereby activating the dampers traveling back from the strings. I suspect this was the problem all along. Turn on the Disklavier, play a disk, and turn the volume up. Watch the soft pedal mechanism as you turn the volume from the highest to the lowest setting Sometimes these soft pedal rods have a string that gets caught when the volume is turned very low. You would not have seen that condition without removing the bottom board. If the string is wound tight, the piano is in soft mode. The idea is that there should be plenty of slack in normal volume modes. If you still have trouble, call the great guys at Yamaha tech support at 1-800-854-1569. However, they don't answer the phone until morning Pacific time! >From: staytuned@idirect.com (John Lillico, RPT) >Reply-To: pianotech@ptg.org >To: pianotech@ptg.org >Subject: MX100A pedal adjustment >Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2000 22:46:56 -0400 > >I have no training in these Disclaviers but noticed the sustain pedal >didn't start lifting dampers (manually) until the pedal was about 80% down. >I also noticed a screw through the bottom door spring which suggested to me >"keep out".
