Decal placement rule of thumb

Richard this is exactly the rule of thumb I use...but................... 
there are exceptions of course :-)
 'Visually' speaking even though a large decal may be placed correctly 
according to the rule of thumb above, it will seem 'unbalanced'.   
Sooooo....... the second rule of thumb I use is that the larger the decal the 
lower I apply it on the fallboard.
