Steinway designs the damper system so that the damper wire rides the side of the bushing just enough to prevent it from vibrating but loose enough to move freely up and down. The adjustment is to use a pair of wire benders and gently bend the wire just above the damper flange so the wire does ride the side of the bushing, right side in the bass and left side in the treble. If the damper moves sideways to seat itself when tri-bi-mono chords are sued then you are riding the wrong side of the bushing. Simple of a pain in the back side. Newton (gently, gently)
