Hi Phil, Let me take a stab at it... The 1) Damper stop rail is set too high allowing the 2) Damper tray to come up far enough to allow the 3) Bass sustain pitman rod to become dislocated in it's hole in the damper tray. Am I on the right track?? Another problem I've had on occasion with this same assembly is the metal pin on the top end of the pitman clicking against the hole in the damper tray. I've bushed a couple of them so far. I don't know if they're still making them without any bushing of any kind or not. Interesting puzzler, Phil.
