When I ask them to be more specific on this, they start to cool off. One person when asked what note I was playing on the piano went cold on the idea altogether. To me, having perfect pitch means being able to detect or aurally produce a note within a maybe a few beats, but no one has demonstrated to me that they can get that close. I would imagine that singers would be pretty accurate, but not perfect. Any comments? Brian Holden >> One of my employees gets pretty close. She is a piano major, and can tell any pitch, and give any pitch. She is new to the field of piano technology, so I tested her. I asked her to tune one octave, center string only, of a piano which I had in my Acutuner. I checked each note against the machine. Of the 12 notes, 6 were right on. The others were within 2 or 3 cents. I say that is pretty accurate. Close enough to pass the tuning exam. She has to learn to tune octaves, and get the stretch. But once she will get the hang of it, I think she'll do a darn good job. Willem Blees
