I believe "surfactant" means reducing the surface tension of water in particular. I
forgot how H2O surface tension compares with for instance H2SO4. Anyhow I do know
that WD stands for W ater D isplacement.  Soooo the action of WD 40   (the fortieth
formula) reduces the surface tension of moisture, causing it spread around
(displace)   (causes it to evaporate faster also I tink)    Ric Tinker
