I experienced what you mention in more than once in the distant past, but
finally realized later on down the road after being totally frustrated as
to my technical abilities whatsoever, I was using the incorrect harpsichord
wire.  I had misinterpreted the markings the builder put on the pinblock as
to what wire size and/or type of wire to use.

Certainly makes or breaks a successful string replacement.   :-)

Hey, maybe this qualifies for at least a 1 on the Tremper "thingee".
