> IAPBT International Association of Piano Builders and Technicians. This association is a subset of PTG and many other technician associations belong to it. There are many other technical associations for piano tuner and technicians throughout the world. MPT does stand for Master Piano Technicians, an association organized by several people disenchanted with the political situation within PTG some 30 years ago. American Society of Piano Tuners and National Association of Piano Technicians, two separate groups, merged into PTG in 1958 or so. There are no other levels of recognition within PTG other than RPT. In 1970 or earlier I was on the committee that examined Henry Hiano, Yamaha Technician Extraordinary, for membership in PTG. He exhibited a skill level far beyond mine that I determined that I would find a way to learn what he knew. Some 30 years later I am still struggling to do so. At the national convention in San Diego in 1965 I was examined for membership in PTG. I found all the tests relatively easy which was a testament to my education and my teacher Emil Fries. Newton
