Kimball mystery mounts

Trivia time. Ok, here's the gig. In a 45" (and other, maybe all of them)
Kimball, there are two short screws in each side of the case. I always
assumed they were  index and hangers for a regulating, or hammer hanging
jig, or some such, during assembly at the factory. I don't recall anyone
ever saying for sure what these were for. Anybody know? Any guesses? Label
the guesses, now, no fair trying to pass them off as fact.
