Plate Leveling

    This is the procedure, in use in our shop, for levelling plates that
are supported on dowels.

    With old pin block still in place and new sound board 'in', install
plate on nose bolts set at original heights above posts.  Fasten plate
to pin block.

    Check to assure all plate bolt bosses are above (not touching) new
sound board.

    Determine down bearing and bridge heights.  Log measurements from
rim top to each plate bolt hole.

    Remove plate. Mike (measure) plate thickness at each plate bolt
hole..  These measured thickness', added to the measured distances from
rim top to top of each plate bolt hole, is the distance from rim top to
top of dowels that support the plate.

    Dowels can then be installed and cut to measured height.
