There was a thread about this a short time ago and there are several opinions.
Mine is that you were right in the first place and should keep it that way.
Tuning each piano to the same pitch (presumably A-440) but to itself, is the
very best way to have the two be the most "together" they can be.

The two really shouldn't be all that different through the midrange,
especially.  Both have relatively low inharmonicity scales.
