It makes sense to match partials of lower notes to those of higher notes, rather than vice versa, because the lower the note, the more important the partials become in terms of what we hear and tune. For example, let's assume that at C4 we hear and tune the fundamental. We would be matching the second partial of C3 to C4, not tuning C4 to match the second partial of C3. Thus "weighting from bass to treble" is not backwards. Is this what you meant? Or do I totally misunderstand your concern? Frank Weston
