Hi If there is a a comment every one agree, tuners and researchers, is that any study of the piano tuning " seems to me to raise many more questions than answers " , as you tell. Because of the change of pitch in time, we cannot really use only frequency mesurement for a real appreciation of the sound quality. But in our dayly usage, having a pitch reference is a good tool anyway Regards
