To my understanding, correct me if I am wrong, do not download from server
will keep the message on the server, that option is used when you access
from different places for different people ie: My son uses my e mail address
for his university and what I do not download, he does in his e-mail.

Depending on the size of your box, it will keep storing those messages.
Better use delete off server...
