Hi James:

No, I don't know what year he began making pianos, but it must have been 
in the '30s. He made quite a few. His studio version was an excellent piano
and it had  regular agraffe in the Bass. He also invented the soundboard
extension which had elongated tone hole chambers for for each treble note
up through the 6th octave. Later Story and Clark utilized this idea on their
medium sized grands.
