Dear Steve, You have just trod ALL OVER my pet peeve. As you note, methanol is toxic. Go to a liquor store and get grain alcohol (190 proof = 95% alcohol). Dilute as desired. "Everclear" is one brand. Works perfectly, and is much, much, MUCH safer! Vodka will ease centers just fine if you don't want to bother choosing your dilution. Using any alcohol on an action, try to keep it away from the butt leather. I have an action from an old Packard here, where the leathers are 1/2 normal width, curled, and hard as rocks, from being doused with alcohol. Nothing to do but throw them out and replace every one.
