You're alot closer to a cross-platform document than you think. If all this
is is an index db, you probably have less than 6 fields, and with the
maximum data in any cell a 100 word abstract (if you even went to that
trouble). Just turn this into a tab-delimited text file and anyone can
import it into their favorite db/spreadsheet, on their particular platform.

As a matter of fact, I'll volunteer to be the first recipient of such a
file (via email of course--the text file can't be more than 200k), and to
report back how easy it was to set up on my own machine.

Maybe if we got enough of us monkeys, we could each take a year's worth of
the db, and do a short abstract for that each article of that year. (Those
of us who have our own copies of these issues. I joined in '74.)) This
would increase the usefulness of your index. However what we all want is
evey single Journal article ever published, with graphics all on one
CD-ROM. But this'll do until the real thing comes along. (And then I read
Don Rose's response!)w
