<<Using acetic acid to take off old key buttons, wondering if any one has
experience glueing new buttons, using hide glue or Titebond.? Should I
clean with something before regluing? Does the type of glue I use
determine the cleaning agent? Would like to use hot hide glue if possible.<<

Key buttons? Why not just pop them off with a chisel? The acid treatment
seems to work a hardship on the wood, darkening it, and it is messy!

>>May have to use CA glue on some of the keys, as they are broken
completely.<<

A key that is broken completely doesn't need CA glue, it needs thin veneer
glued on either side, clamped between the adjacent keys with waxpaper between
them, ( avoids the Ives "cluster chords") . Hot hide glue on properly sized
wood is a good way to go, since it is fast, cheap, time tested, and easily
cleaned up or removed if need be.
