I use 3M spray adheasive. This is basically rubber cement in a spray can, but
it work very well.  I have a spot on my wall where I hang a strip of felt, and
spray the glue on the felt. There is now enough glue residue on the wall that
the felt strips hang there by themself. Allow the glue to dry about 5 mintes,
and the felt will stick to the plate.
